Doesn't the "filter" option or whatever it's called in the PAR try and
accomplish the same thing the built-in filtering in the Toaster account for
this? It's been a while since I used a PAR, but I seem to remember this
from the manual...?

IMHO, this was one of the really important features of the Toaster in the
first place. While any graphics application (including ToasterPaint and
Lightwave) can be directed to create images that are "illegal for
broadcast", outputting them from the Toaster or even saving in the
Framestore format would automatically filter the levels to proper NTSC
levels. For this reason, it was advised to never save in the Framestore
format when compositing or layering, since the image gets re-filtered every
time it gets re-saved in the Framestore format. Saving in the RGB format
bypasses the "Toaster NTSC" filtering. I would imagine this applies to the
new 4.0 HIIP savers as well. The IFF saver would do no filtering, while the
"Toaster" framestore saver would "NTSC-filter" the levels as it saved.

I think I learned this in a really excellent class I had once at NTU. Can't
seem to recall the instructor, tho... ;-)
